John 10:25-30: in context

Jesus speaks of the security of those who belong to him. My sheep hear my voice, he says, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of my Father's hand. Those who are Christ's are held securely, given eternal life, kept in the hand of the Son and of the Father, from which no one can pluck them.

The assurance Jesus gives is one of complete security. His sheep, he says, will never perish; no one can snatch them out of his hand. And he doubles the assurance: they are held not only in his hand but in the Father's hand, and the Father is greater than all, so that no one is able to snatch them from his hand either. Those who are Christ's are held in a double grip, the Son's and the Father's, secure from every threat, every enemy, every power that would pluck them away. Their safety does not depend on their own ability to hold on but on the strength of the hands that hold them. This is a deep comfort for those who are Christ's but fear for their security. We can fear that we might be lost, snatched away, that some enemy or failure or power might pluck us from God's grasp, that our salvation is precarious. Jesus' words answer this fear: no one can snatch you out of my hand, or out of my Father's hand. Our security rests not on our own grip on God, which is weak, but on his grip on us, which is unbreakable, held by the hand of the Son and the Father, greater than all. Nothing, Paul says, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. Those who are Christ's are kept, guarded by the power of God, held securely in his hand. This does not mean we are careless or presumptuous; the sheep are those who hear Christ's voice and follow him. But it means that for those who are truly his, their security rests on God's keeping, not their own strength. We are kept, Peter says, by the power of God through faith. The hands that hold us are stronger than every threat, and no one can pluck us from them. This calls us to rest in the security of Christ's keeping. If we are his, hearing his voice and following him, we are held in his hand and the Father's, secure from every threat, unable to be snatched away. Our salvation is not precarious, hanging on our own weak grip, but sure, resting on the unbreakable grip of the Son and the Father. No one can snatch us out of his hand; and we may rest in the security of being held by the God who is greater than all, kept by his power, safe in the hands that hold us, from which no enemy or failure or power can ever pluck us away.

Do I fear that I might be lost, snatched away, or plucked from God's grasp, imagining my salvation is precarious and depends on my own weak grip on God, and can Jesus' words that his sheep will never perish and no one can snatch them out of his hand or the Father's hand assure me that my security rests not on my grip on God but on his unbreakable grip on me, so that I rest in the keeping of the God who is greater than all, safe in the hands that hold me?
