Mark 3:7-12: in context

7Jesus withdrew to the sea with his disciples; and a great multitude followed him from Galilee, from Judea, 8from Jerusalem, from Idumaea, beyond the Jordan, and those from around Tyre and Sidon. A great multitude, hearing what great things he did, came to him. 9He spoke to his disciples that a little boat should stay near him because of the crowd, so that they wouldn’t press on him. 10For he had healed many, so that as many as had diseases pressed on him that they might touch him. 11The unclean spirits, whenever they saw him, fell down before him and cried, “You are the Son of God!” 12He sternly warned them that they should not make him known.

Jesus withdraws to the sea, but there is no getting away from the crowds. They come from Galilee, Judea, Jerusalem, from beyond the Jordan and the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, so many pressing to touch him that he has a small boat kept ready so he will not be crushed. The sick reach for him, and the unclean spirits, whenever they see him, fall down shouting, you are the Son of God. And he sternly orders them to be silent.

It seems strange that Jesus would hush a true confession. But the demons name him without loving him, on their own terms and at the wrong time, in a way that would only spread a distorted fame built on spectacle. Jesus will not be advertised by the testimony of spirits or by a crowd chasing cures. A true fact about him, spoken without any submission behind it, is not the witness he is after.

Can I say true things about Jesus while still missing what the demons missed, the surrender that turns a fact into faith?
