Hebrews 10:17-23: in context

17“I will remember their sins and their iniquities no more.” 18Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. 19Having therefore, brothers, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus, 20by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh, 21and having a great priest over God’s house, 22let’s draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and having our body washed with pure water, 23let’s hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering; for he who promised is faithful.

Because God has said, I will remember their sins no more, the writer draws a conclusion: where sins are fully forgiven, there is no more offering needed for them. And so, having confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way he opened for us through the veil of his flesh, and having a great priest over God's house, let us draw near.

The therefore is everything. Because sin is fully forgiven and the way to God has been opened by Christ's blood, we are invited to draw near, boldly, with a true heart in full assurance of faith, our hearts cleansed. The veil that once shut people out has been torn, and the whole invitation is simply: come. And having come, we are to hold fast our hope without wavering, resting the entire weight of it on this one fact, that he who promised is faithful. The right response to such open access is not to hang back, but to draw near and hold on.

Do I draw near to God with the confidence Christ's blood has bought, and hold fast my hope, trusting that the One who promised is faithful?
