Joshua 19:24-31: in context

24The fifth lot came out for the tribe of the children of Asher according to their families. 25Their border was Helkath, Hali, Beten, Achshaph, 26Allammelech, Amad, Mishal. It reached to Carmel westward, and to Shihorlibnath. 27It turned toward the sunrise to Beth Dagon, and reached to Zebulun, and to the valley of Iphtah El northward to Beth Emek and Neiel. It went out to Cabul on the left hand, 28and Ebron, Rehob, Hammon, and Kanah, even to great Sidon. 29The border turned to Ramah, to the fortified city of Tyre; and the border turned to Hosah. It ended at the sea by the region of Achzib; 30Ummah also, and Aphek, and Rehob: twenty-two cities with their villages. 31This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Asher according to their families, these cities with their villages.

This passage records the inheritance allotted to the tribe of Asher, its borders and its cities, town by town. Like the other tribal allotments, it might seem a dry list, but it represents a promise fulfilled.

Each tribe received its portion of the land God had sworn to give, and Asher's inheritance is carefully recorded, its boundaries and towns named one by one. There is faithfulness in the very details: God did not give a vague, general blessing but a specific inheritance to each tribe, marked out and set down. And there is a lesson here about our own inheritance in God. Just as each tribe had its appointed portion, so God gives each of his people a place and a portion in his purposes; no one is left out or overlooked. The careful naming of Asher's towns reminds us that God's provision is particular and personal. He knows the exact portion he has appointed for each of his own.

Do I trust that God has an appointed portion and place for me among his people, as particular and personal as the inheritance he marked out for each tribe?
