2 Chronicles 4:7-11: in context

7He made the ten lamp stands of gold according to the ordinance concerning them; and he set them in the temple, five on the right hand and five on the left. 8He made also ten tables, and placed them in the temple, five on the right side and five on the left. He made one hundred basins of gold. 9Furthermore he made the court of the priests, the great court, and doors for the court, and overlaid their doors with bronze. 10He set the sea on the right side of the house eastward, toward the south. 11Huram made the pots, the shovels, and the basins. So Huram finished doing the work that he did for King Solomon in God’s house:

This passage describes the making of the temple's furnishings: ten golden lampstands, ten tables, a hundred basins, the courts and doors, all crafted for the worship of God. And it notes that Huram, the skilled craftsman, finished the work he had done for Solomon in the house of God.

Two things are worth noticing. The abundance and beauty of it all, ten of everything, gold overlaid, rich and careful craftsmanship, reflect that God's worship was to be adorned with real skill and care; nothing was too fine for his house. And the simple word finished carries weight: the work of building God's house was carried through to completion by faithful, skilled hands. There is honor in bringing our craft and skill to God's service, and in completing well what we begin for him. The craftsman who makes a lampstand or a basin for God's house, and finishes the work, serves God with his hands as truly as anyone who leads in worship.

Do I bring my skill and craft to God's service, offering him good work and carrying it faithfully through to completion?
