Matthew 2:1-6: in context

Matthew's account of Jesus's birth quickly becomes a story about who goes looking and who does not. Jesus is born in Bethlehem in the days of Herod, and the first to come seeking him are outsiders, wise men from the east who have traveled a long way because they saw a star, and who arrive in Jerusalem asking, where is he who has been born King of the Jews? We have come to worship him. The news does not delight the city. Herod is troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; the establishment hears that a king has been born and is unsettled rather than glad.

Herod calls in the chief priests and scribes and asks where the Christ is to be born, and they answer at once, without hesitation. In Bethlehem of Judea, they say, and they quote the prophet, chapter and verse: out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel. They know exactly where he is. Bethlehem is a short walk from where they are standing. And not one of them goes. The scholars have the knowledge and no desire; the foreigners have the desire and had to borrow the knowledge. Only the ones who came from far away actually make the last few miles to the child.

The scribes knew precisely where the King lay and would not walk the few miles to see him. Where do I know exactly where the good thing is, and still will not close the small distance to it?
